Transport by Sea Route is one of the Oldest and most efficient and cost effective method of transportation system. Merchant Navy comprises of Passenger Ships, Bulk Carriers, Cargo Liners, and Oil & Gas Tankers etc. Merchant Navy is engaged in transport activities by sea route all around the world connecting nearly all the continents and countries.

India with vast coastline of about 7500kms as 12 major ports Kandla, Mumbai, Navasheva, Goa, Mangalore, Cochin, Tuticorin, Chennai, Ennore, Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Kolkata and 185 intermediate and small ports along the coast which offered tremendous potential for international trade of cargo and passengers. This trade is carried on Merchant Ships making Merchant Navy the backbone of economy of country, and also giving employment opportunity on a large scale. Still there is a vast requirement in the industry but most of the people are unaware of this field.

India’s contribution in the world /global trade through its current fleet of Merchant Ships is in significant - meager 0.6%and requires encouragement. Efforts are on to accelerate the growth of Merchant Fleet and Shipping Industry. Merchant Ships carry 90% of global trade and this sea borne trade is forecast to almost double over the next 15 years. It is obvious that the augmentation of Merchant Fleet will follow in support to cater to this ever growing fleet of ships .we need to develop the technically skilled, manpower to man them and thus avoid a mismatch.

Normally the professional life begins after one has completed his 10th or 10+2 (SSC, Inter or its equivalent). Many of you have different dreams for your future. But one undergoes the hard ships to be confronted during the whole episode of many career paths. Apart from the different land based careers, there is a promising career in the Merchant Navy. Which is more challenging and highly rewarding with global experience and thrilling adventures it gives long lasting career.
